There are days you want to fulfill your beach cravings but without the waves of the water or the safety concern. Well, Toronto has just that! A city beach by all definitions, Sugar Beach is certainly a contrast to the highly active area that surrounds it.
Location
11 Dockside Dr, Toronto, ON M5A 1B6
How to get there
Sugar beach is ‘hidden’ in the middle of downtown Toronto, next to the Redpath Sugar Factory at the foot of Lower Jarvis Street so you can easily get there by bus, if you are driving, you already know the struggles that comes with downtown parking, so have plans for that.
Who should visit
If you are interested in a beach atmosphere without direct access to the water but a good enough view, then this is the place for you. However, if you desire to get in for a swim, then this isn’t it.
Sugar Beach is an urban park where you can sit on wooden cottage chairs, rest your feet in the sand, sunbathe or seek shade under one of the pink umbrellas, or do a mini Instagram photoshoot (lol i had to sneak that in somehow).
You can relax, read a book, or occasionally watch a boat unloading its cargo of sugar at the Redpath refinery!
I was a little disappointed with the fact that there was no access to water and i came prepared to have fun in the water. I mean when you hear the beach, having water is a no brainer. however, there are fountains to cool off on a hot day.
What to expect
What the beach lacks in swimming capabilities, it makes up for with white Muskoka chairs, pink beach umbrellas, white sand, trees and plants. All these make for cute pictures if you ask me. I would recommend visiting this place for a cute picnic. Bring your food and drink and come to relax near the water.
Why you should visit
So relaxing and lovely. A great place to unwind and relax. Quiet too which is nice and plenty of seating.

I’ve only been to Sugar Beach in the winter lol sounds so silly, doesn’t it? It looks so lovely and this is such a great review. Need to add it to my Toronto plans for next summer.
Absolutely loved reading this! Beautiful pictures and well detailed info. While I’ve visited here just once, you sure shook my mindset and I’ve concluded winter was a bad time for me to have gone. I’d try again next summer. Thank you for sharing! 🤍
